There is no cure for PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) by far, so the current
treatment focuses on preventing stopping progression and the complications of
PKD, the aim of which are to protect the remaining renal function and avoid the
further damages. If the patients can get a correct and reasonable treatment, the
clinical symptoms and renal functions would be controlled or improved for most
of them and the condition of illness be made stable, which could enhance their
quality of life and prolong their lives.
Find the Disease as soon as possible:
It is estimated that PKD has a tendency for heredity with the rate
of 60%~70% and the roughly equal chance of being affected by men and women.
So, there is a possibility that many people are being affected at the same time
in a family that has the medical history of PKD. Since the attacking of the PKD
is not appearing until the age of 25-35, even until the symptoms of renal
failure, so to the people who have the family history of PKD, we should do the
general investigation and regular follow-up visit so as to find and treat their
disease ASAP.
Early Prevention and Treatment for Complications:
The common complications for PKD are hypertension, urinary tract
infection and ruptured cysts, which are also the important factors that
induce and aggravate the damage of renal function. So, promptly treatment and
control should be adopted. Yet, in the process of medications, pay attention to
the renal toxicity effect of the medicines. If there are cases of constant blood
urine, or severe lumbago, or stomachache etc, they are probably caused by blood
infection or ruptured cysts. In such circumstances, the patients should see a
doctor in a hospital so as not to delay the condition of illness and worsen the
renal failure.
