Nursing Managements of Patients with Edema

Edema is a common symptom of Kidney Disease. In some cases, the patients may have systemic edema, which may injure their normal heart and lungs’ normal function. Therefore, proper nursing managements of patients with edema are very important.

1. For the patients with Kidney Disease, they firstly have edema around eyelids, faces and other loose organizations and then spread to systemic edema. The patients with Nephrotic Syndrome always are complicated with hydrothorax and ascetic fluid. If you have these symptoms, you should consider that you may have Kidney Disease.

2. The patients should limit the salt and water intake. Generally speaking, they should keep the salt intake within 5 grams per day. If their disease is serious, they should reduce salt intake to 2 grams per day. The volume of fluid intake should be higher than the urine output volume. Meanwhile, the patients should eat more digestible food.

3. If the patients with edema need injection, the doctor should press on the injection site for a while before infection. In this way, the patients can have better absorption of liquid medicine.

4. Edema skin can not feel good and also has weak resistance. Therefore, the patients with edema should prevent press, burning, infection and so on. They should wear soft and loose clothes and keep their bed clean, tidy and dry. Moreover, they should clean their skin with warm water every day.
