Renal Insufficiency refers to chronically progressive decline in renal
function due to various kinds of kidney diseases. Although Renal Insufficiency
is in children is not as common as in adults. However, its severity of the
disease can not be neglected by parents. If your children have the following
abnormal symptoms, you should pay more attention to them.
1. Slow growth
With the decline in renal function, their kidneys can not work normally. In
order to alleviate the burden to kidneys, the children have to limit their diet.
As a result, they will not be able to get enough nutrition, especially calorie
and protein. Moreover, the children with Renal Insufficiency also have
electrolyte disturbance, it can restrain the bone growth.
2. Anemia
When GFR declines 35 ml/min or even lower, the hemoglobin level will decrease
obviously. If the adults and children with Renal Insufficiency have renal
function decline in the same degree, the anemia in children is more serious.
3. Hypertension
When Renal Insufficiency develops into the advanced stage, only a minority of
children keep normal blood pressure. Even if the children undergo regular
dialysis or use antihypertensive medicines, about 40% of them still keep high
blood pressure. Therefore, the parents should monitor the children’ blood
pressure closely.
4. Cardiovascular system
Cardiovascular diseases are the main death cause for the children with Renal
Insufficiency. According to some researches, about 63% of children on dialysis
and 27% of them with kidney transplant die of cardiovascular diseases. Heart
failure and pericarditis are very common among the children.
5. Renal osteodystrophy
Renal osteodystrophy include bone and mineral metabolic disturbances. Kidneys
have close relationship with calcium, phosphorus, PTH and vitamin D. When kidney
function declines, the related minerals metabolism also changes. Therefore, the
children usually have slow growth, bone ache, bone deformation, chondropathy and
so on.
In addition, the children with Renal Insufficiency also have nerve diseases
and so on. The parents should pay more attention to the above abnormal symptoms.
