Nephrotic Syndrome (NS) describes a serious condition marked by swelling,
protein in the urine, decreased protein in the blood and high levels of
cholesterol. This disorder can occur at any age. Nephrotic Syndrome may cause
death if improperly treated. There are two severe risk factors.
A. Infection. Infections include peritonitis (fluid in the belly) or
cellulitis (fluid in the skin), which may occur due to bacteria including
streptococcus, or E.coli. This infection can be overwhelming and is
life-threatening.
B. Blood clots. This is a major risk factor for children with Nephrotic
Syndrome. Due to large amount loss of protein in the urine, the ability to
appropriately clot blood is lost, so children get an increased risk of suffering
from blood clots. These clots can be as mild as local clotting
(thrombophlebitis), or as major as a pulmonary embolism causing death.
Effective treatment should be adopted as early as possible so as to prevent
further deterioration of Nephrotic Syndrome and repair the kidney
impairment.
At present, the best treatment for Nephrotic Syndrome is immunotherapy,
combining Chinese medicine with western medical technology. Therefore, it can
guarantee a better curative effect.
