Diabetes in the United Arab Emirates: Prevalence and Treatment

The United Arab Emirates are seeing a Diabetes explosion, with approximately 25% of the population, or about 1.75 million individuals now suffering from the disease. Diet. Generally, the diet should be low in refined carbohydrates like sugar, sweets, chocolates, etc. The amount of total calorie intake should be restricted. This can be planned by the doctor.

Oral hypoglycaemic tablets. Those are applied in Type 2 Diabetes and needs to be monitored by the doctor.

Insulin injections. This treatment is needed in Type 1 Diabetes and may be required for Type 2 Diabetes and during pregnancy.
