The United Arab Emirates are seeing a Diabetes explosion, with approximately
25% of the population, or about 1.75 million individuals now suffering from the
disease. It is known that UAE has the second highest prevalence of Diabetes
worldwide, so this disease is being recognized as a major problem in the
UAE.
Deaths associated with Diabetes are a severe problem and relate to genetic
disposition, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity, with a high

Diabetes treatment options in UAE
Diet. Generally, the diet should be low in refined carbohydrates like sugar,
sweets, chocolates, etc. The amount of total calorie intake should be
restricted. This can be planned by the doctor.
Oral hypoglycaemic tablets. Those are applied in Type 2 Diabetes and needs to
be monitored by the doctor.
Insulin injections. This treatment is needed in Type 1 Diabetes and may be
required for Type 2 Diabetes and during pregnancy.
