Signs of Renal Fibrosis

Renal fibrosis refers to a kind of pathological changing process, in which the kidneys are injured gradually and finally fail completely. This process can be divided into three phases and each phase is featured by different signs. I think we should know signs of renal fibrosis before lab tests for detecting kidney fibrosis.

1. Inflammation response phase
After the kidney tissues are injured by pathological factors, it will cause inflammation response in kidneys. In clinic, the patients only have abnormality in urine test and do not have any other abnormal symptoms. This phase is also called asymptomatic phase. If the patients can receive proper treatment to suppress the inflammation response, the disease will be reversed completely.

2. Fibrosis forming phase
In this phase, the renal fibrosis has spread to the whole kidneys and the healthy nephrons have been damaged badly. It means that the disease has developed into Renal Failure. The signs of renal fibrosis in this stage mainly include:
* Swelling in faces, legs etc
* Foams in urine for protein loss
* High blood pressure
* Dark or cola-colored urine for red blood cells loss in urine
* Fatigue
*Reduced urine output and frequent urination at night

3. Scarring forming phase
Once the kidney tissues progress into scarred tissues, it is hard to reverse the disease. As the kidneys nearly fail completely, a lot of metabolic products build up in body thus causing damage to organs of the whole body. The patients are usually accompanied by heart disease, nerve disease, brain disease etc.
In this phase, if the patients can preserve their residual renal function and improve it by proper treatment, they will be able to avoid dialysis or kidney transplant.

From the above article, we can find that the renal fibrosis present different signs in different phases and renal injury. If the patients can receive effective treatment as early as possible, they will be able to reverse the disease and avoid developing Renal Failure completely.
