As for Chronic Nephritis, patients should take proper treatment; improve
edema, hypertension and abnormal urine and some other symptoms. Besides, a
proper dietary habit is also very important. Keeping a healthy diet can prevent
or delay the progressive decline of kidney function and slow down the progress
of Renal Failure. Low-protein diet can reduce the nitrogen and phosphorus of
blood and decrease the high pressure, high perfusion and the high filtration
condition of glomeruli, then to alleviate the kidney’s burden, finally the
glomerular sclerosis and the decline of kidney function can be delayed.
1. Do not take high-salt diet.
The edema of Chronic Nephritis has a big relationship with blood volume and
sodium. Every 1g salt will bring in about 110ml water. If Nephritis patients
take too much salt, the micturition function will be damaged. If things go on
like this, the edema will become serious; blood volume can increase; thus
causing cardiac failure. So it is important to limit the salt intake. Patients
need to take low-salt diet and control the intake under 2 to 4g/d, thus to
prevent the aggravation of edema and the increase of blood volume.
2. Limit plant protein.
The intake of plant protein should depend on the kidney function. Patients
who have the symptoms such as less urine, edema, high blood pressure and the
retention of nitrogen should limit the protein intake within 20 to 40g/d, thus
to relieve the kidney’s burden and avoid the deposition of non protein nitrogen
in human body. In particular, there is a large quantity of purine base in plant
protein. It can enhance the intermediary metabolism of kidney. So it is not
suitable to take beans or bean products as the nutritional supplement, including
soybean, mung bean, vicia bean, soya-bean milk and bean curd, etc.
3. Avoid taking irritative spices.
Some stimulating spices will damage kidney function, such as pepper, mustard
and hot pepper. Eating too much gourmet powder will make people feel thirsty.
When limiting the water intake, patients should also take less gourmet
powder.
4. Do not eat or eat less high fat food.
Chronic Nephritis patients have some symptoms, such as high blood pressure
and anemia. The plant protein may aggravate the condition of hypertension and
anemia. Because fat will aggravate atherosclerosis and inhibit hematopoiesis
function, patients with Chronic Nephritis should take less fat diet. However, if
Chronic Nephritis patients don’t take fat intake, the body will become much
weaker. Patients should take plant oil for about 60g/d instead.
5. Limit some high-purine and high-nitrogen food.
In order to relieve the kidney’s burden, it is essential to limit some
stimulating food for kidneys, such as spinach, celery, radish, beans, bean
product, chicken soup, fish soup and broths, etc. Because these food contain
much purine and nitrogen, their metabolic products cannot be discharged out of
body when kidneys are damaged, thus leading to a negative influence on kidney
function.
6. Control the fluid volume.
Chronic Nephritis patients who have Hypertension and Edema should control the
fluid volume within 1200 to 1500ml/d, including 800ml in the drink and dishes.
If patients get severe edema, it is more important to limit the water
intake.
