Diabetic Nephropathy is a common complication of Diabetes. About 20% of
patients with Diabetes will develop Diabetic Nephropathy in varying degrees.
Without timely treatment of the disease, most of the patients will aggravate

Firstly, the patients should know their standard body weight. According the
basic formula: standard body weight (kg) =weight (cm)-105
The patients with Diabetic Nephropathy should make their calorie intake plan
based on their body weight.
1. If their body weight accords with the standard body weight, they should
keep their total calorie intake within 25 kilocalorie/kg body weight per
day.
2. If their body weight is below the standard body weight, they should keep
the calorie intake within 30 kilocalorie/kg body weight per day.
3. If their body weight is above the standard body weight, they should keep
the calorie intake within 18~20kilocalorie/kg body weight per day.
In the total calorie intake, the patients with Diabetic Nephropathy should
distribute the sugar, and fat intakes based on their following proportion.
1. Sugar intake should cover 50%~60% of the total calorie intake.
2. Fat intake should be less than 30% of the total calorie intake
In protein intake, the patients should adjust its intake based on the
patients’ illness condition. When the patients begin to have proteinuria, they
should decline their protein intake within 0.8 grams/ kg body weight per day.
Once glomerular filtration rate begins to decline, they should keep the protein
intake within 0.6 grams/kg body weight per day. In the total protein intake, the
high quality protein should cover more than half.
