1. Eat carbohydrate foods with a low Glycemic Index.

Highly refined carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta, rice, soda, candy and snack foods should be avoided. Dietary fiber includes all parts of plant food which can reduce the risk of heart disease and help control blood sugar levels, so diabetics are advised to choose fiber-rich foods.

4. Choose healthy fats.

Fats can be either helpful or harmful in your diet. Some fats are unhealthy such as saturated fats and trans fats, which may increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. 6. Eat regular meals and healthy snacks.
