What are the causes of Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)? Besides genetic
factors, if patients with family history can not prevent infection and cold
happening, this disease is easy to occur. Well then, what are the detailed
causes of PKD?
The main cause of PKD is gene deletion. Adult PKD is caused by the 16th
chromosome deletion and sometimes is the 4th chromosome deletion. This type is
dominant inheritance with 100% possibility. Therefore, if one of parents has
chromosome deletion, their children can have 50% possibility of being inherited
this disease.
Infantile PKD is a kind of autosomal recessive inheritance, which means that
children can have this disease with the possibility of 25% only both of their
parents have PKD.
As for patients suffering from Adult PKD, very few symptoms can be found in
early stage. With cysts growing, they can compress surrounding kidney tissue and
then related symptoms appear gradually. Though there are few symptoms in early
stage, PKD patients still need active treatment in this period in order to
control cysts growing and increasing. If PKD patients can accept timely
treatment actively in early stage, the disease development can be delayed
effectively and it may not develop into Renal Failure Stage or Uremia Stage.
