The examination of serum creatinine is a main method to check the renal
function. When the serum creatinine increases, it will threaten the health of
the patients. So why does the serum creatinine increase.
Creatinine is a type of toxin which is secreted by muscle. Usually,
creatinine is extracted with the urine, if the creatinine is retented in the
human body for a long time, it will lead to the increase of serum
creatinine.
According to the resource of creatinine, it can be divided into exogenous and
endogenous. The former is the product of meat food metabolized in the body. And
the later is the metabolism product of our muscle.
However, the endogeny creatinine is the metabolism products of the muscle. In
the muscle of human body, creatine generate the creatinine slowly trough the
irreversible non-enzyme dehydration, and then the creatinine is released into the
blood and excreted out of the human body with the urine. Therefore, the serum
creatinine is closely related to the amount of mules of human body. In most
cases, it won’t affected by the diets, high catabolism and other renal outside
factors. When the exogenous creatinine is stable, the stable amount of
endogenous creatinine is about 20mg/kg per day. The degree of serum creatinine
is mainly decided by the glomerulus filtration rate. But the serum creatinine is
different from the creatinine clearance rate. The creatinine clearance rate is
more sensitive than the serum creatinine. During the early stage of the decline
of the renal function (compensatory stage), the creatinine clearance rate
decrease, but the serum creatinine is normal. When the glomerulus filtration
rate decreases by more than 50 percent, the serum creatinine will increase
rapidly. Therefore, the obvious increase of serum creatinine means that the
renal function has been seriously damaged. Since the creatinine clearance rate
will affected by the glomerulus concentrate function, when the renal
concentration function is damaged, the serum creatinine is the most reliable
index to reflect the glomerulus function. The normal serum creatinine value of
male is 53-106gmol/L, and female is 44.2-97.2gmol/L.
