Many Polycystic Kidney Disease patients have hypertension at the same time.
But why patients have hypertension, though this is very common among Polycystic
Kidney Disease patients. Actually, hypertension caused by Polycystic Kidney
Disease, which is a kind of secondary hypertension, is more harmful to our body.
We should learn more about it.
The reason why Polycystic Kidney Disease patients have hypertension can be
described as followed: cyst enlargement can produce pressure on normal kidney
tissue and blood vessels in kidney. This can cause ischemia to kidney tissue and
blood vessel, resulting in blood flow decrease in local part. Once receptor of
kidney feels this change, it will give a sign of secreting more rennin, which
can increase the concentration of angiotensin and cause vasoconstriction, thus
blood pressure increasing. It is a vicious circle between hypertension and
kidney damage. For this reason, Polycystic Kidney Disease patients should pay
high attention on hypertension and try to control blood pressure in normal
range.
The occurrence of hypertension is a sign of disease aggravation. More than
50% patients will get hypertension before serum creatinine increasing. Once
hypertension occurs, arterial vessels will shrink which may induce injury to the
wall of blood vessel. Under such condition, cholesterol and other materials can
deposit on blood vessel wall easily, thus thickening and hardening blood vessel
wall. Besides, this may also involve to renal artery and glomerulus, resulting
in kidney ischemia, glomerular atrophy and small artery fibrosis. With this
happening, this disease may develop into end stage renal failure gradually. If
