What is congenital nephrotic syndrome in children exactly?
The infants with CNS always have the symptoms of nephrotic syndrome which is characterized in severe swelling, hypoproteinemia, proteinuria and hyperlipidaemia.
Most of them are premature infant with big placenta and their placenta is heavier than 25% of the infant weight. Almost every infant has swelling only 2 month after their birth. A part of them have abdominal distension or ascites when they were born. The protein in blood is very low and their plasma cholesterol is normal or higher than the normal range. Some of infants have iron-deficiency anemia, growth disorder, delay of ossification and hypothyroidism.
Except for these symptoms above, they often have some special symptoms which are different from the signs of nephrotic syndrome. The infants with congenital nephrotic syndrome always have malnutrition, so they would not grow well. They may have smaller heads, lower position ear, low bridge of the nose and other special complexion. How to treat congenital nephrotic syndrome in children?
Immunotherapy has been used for congenital nephrotic syndrome for more than three years. Only using immune blocker or hormone therapy cannot control their condition very well and infants cannot bear the bad side effects. Accordingly, their swelling and cholesterol level would be remitted.
The respiratory tract infection in fact is the main cause of CNS for the children. Immunotherapy can reduce the chance of infection.
